Welcome to another edition of this week's newsletter. I hope you are keeping well and staying safe during these unprecedented times. Well, the weather has taken a turn for the worst over the last week, with the 'Beast from the East' rolling into the country. I'm snowed in at home, as they don't seem to grit the roads where we are and a Fiat 500 turns into a cruel mechanical joke in the snow and ice. To be fair it's a bit like being on that runaway mining cart in Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, no control and no sense of being able to stop. Anyway, it has given me the opportunity to get cracking on lots of jobs on the computer at home and I have certainly been busy tapping away on the keyboard. You'll be glad to hear the greenkeepers have been continuing keeping the courses in great nick ahead of out return. To be fair, the snow is actually doing us a favour in many ways. It is ensuring little critters don't come to the surface too early and gives us plenty of opportunity to get a few bits sorted out, that need lower temperatures to complete. It's been renewals time in the office and David and Sheree have been busy collecting the membership subs for the last month or so. It has been great to see how many of you have paid in advance and paid as normal regardless of the obvious issues of access. We would like to thankyou all once again for supporting your club and paying your annual fees, rest assured we are investing these funds very wisely and can't wait to welcome you back. With changes to the infrastructure of the course and practice facilities we have also been hard at work cleaning, renewing and developing all areas of the club. The driving range will have all new super dooper range mats delivered at the end of this week. The concrete base is being jetted this week also in preparation of your return. The practice net is having new netting and a new baffler net and mat installed next week as well. All ready for your impending return to golf with us at the links of Littlestone. Remember that we are still here to help in any way we can - so if you need to ask us a question, please don't hesitate to contact us. Enjoy the read. |
The R&A and USGA – golf’s two governing bodies who set out the rules for both playing the sport and the making of equipment – announced their proposals to combat the increasing distance in golf. One of the proposals is to limit the length of a driver shaft to 46 inches. It makes for interesting timing given Bryson DeChambeau’s quest for maximum distance by trialling a 48-inch model in recent months. A driver that wouldn’t be permitted if such a proposal was introduced. It’s fair to say that the overall reception has been mixed. On one hand, you have Bryson who has given his support to the proposed changes and believes it is “flattering” that they might restrict the length of a driver based on his recent performance. However, it’s safe to say Rory McIlroy had a slightly different opinion, believing the money and attention should be focused away from the 0.01% at the top of the game:
"We have to make the game as easy and approachable as possible for the majority of golfers." "It's (about) the grassroots. It's getting more people engaged in golf.”
All being said, we don’t think anyone would disagree with Rory on this front. What are your thoughts? Are you in favour of the proposed changes?
