Hello Golfers,

I hope you're safe and well.

As we head into our second week of lockdown, there is plenty to tell you about this week. Historically it is this time of year that manufacturers begin to launch the new products for the year. This week we have both PING and Callaway launching product and I will take you thorough these very exciting products in this week's news.

You will be glad to know that we have cracking on with some course works over the last week. A significant amount of course maintenance projects are being completed whilst we are away from the club. Barney and his team have been very busy indeed looking after your courses. A quick note to all of you whilst I think on, Barney is looking for two new greenkeepers going forward into 2021. It would be perfect for a young school leaver looking to get a career going in greenkeeping. If any of you know of anyone who may be interested in such a career, please let me know and I will pass their details onto Barney.

In addition to the additional staff for the greenkeepers, I will be looking for a new Head Professional to join the team from April. Our initial advertising will go to press in the next week or so and the first draft should be completed by mid February. After a very busy year and losing both Bruce and Penny in 2020, we need some additional support going forward. So, if any of you want to give any of your golfing friends a heads up, they will need to be PGA qualified for a minimum of 3 years and looking to progress their career during an exciting time at the club.

Personally this week, I have spent a lot of time stock checking, clearing hard drives and planning for our return. It certainly was an eye opener on the hard drive with documents in there going back many years and some very interesting reading indeed. Amongst all the paper work there was also some great course photographs lost in time in there and I will be taking you through a few later on in the newsletter.

Anyway, I have plenty of great news to keep you entertained this week and an amazing freebee to you all from the board of directors, to you the membership.

English top in Hawaii

Tour golf is very much a way of life and an unforgiving one at that. As recently as 2019, Harris English was struggling to return to the PGA Tour, having lost his card and been demoted to the Korn Ferry Tour (this is the feeder tour to the PGA, much like the Challenge Tour in Europe).

Now, English is a PGA Tour champion once again. The 31-year-old picked up his first victory since 2013 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, having fought off Justin Thomas’ pursuit of a third title in five years at the event. What an achievement, and one for the sentimentalists.

PING launch the G425 range

Available in-store on our return to golf

The last two years have been a great success for the PING brand and the PING G420 has been the best performing product line for us in 2019/2020. Following the huge successes of this iconic brand, we now give you the PING G425 family of clubs.

The Irons :- The metal-wood-style, variable-thickness face and internal geometry increase ball speed and flexing for launching shots higher and farther with stopping power to hold greens. Expanded perimeter weighting in this smaller head design sets a new standard in forgiveness for an iron its size.

The Driver :- G425 MAX elevates the moment of inertia to PING’s highest level in history. Forgiveness comes mainly from a 26-gram tungsten movable weight, made possible by weight savings from advancements in the driver’s dragonfly crown technology. The CG-shifting weight can be set in neutral, draw or fade. A T9S+ forged face increases flexing for adding distance. Available in 9°, 10.5° and 12°.

The Fairways :- In the G425 fairways and hybrids, two shared PING innovations known as Facewrap and Spinsistency combine to deliver more distance and spin predictability for carrying trouble and hitting greens. A tungsten sole weight increases the MOI in the stainless steel heads for added forgiveness. MAX available in 3W, 5W, 7W, 9W.

The Hybrids :- PING innovations Facewrap and Spinsistency combine to deliver greater distance and spin predictability so your approach shots reach greens and hold greens. A tungsten back weight on the extreme perimeter helps increase MOI for more stability and forgiveness. Available in 2H thru 7H.

The Crossover :- On the tee or off the ground, the G425 crossovers' thinner, maraging steel face and internal geometry deliver the ball speeds to hit high-flying shots that land softly and closer to the hole. Tungsten toe and hosel weights expand perimeter weighting for greater forgiveness and accuracy. Available in 2, 3, 4.

These are great additions to the PING family for 2021. I will have all the demo equipment ready for when we return and we have a couple of trial days planned for when we get back to golf. It is set to be a great year for PING and one to continue the sucesses of the G410 brand. New equipment, new you in 2021.

Quiz Night - Friday 15th January at 7:00pm

With lockdown, the Littlestone Quiz is back. Only this time its slightly different, there are prizes available. There will be an entry fee of £5 per team and the winners take the pot which will be posted as special gifts the days after the quiz. Prizes are unique and not necessarily golf related, so please join me and take part in this lockdown institution. The first quiz will take place on Friday, 15th January at 7:00pm. The entry fee for the quiz will be taken from your nominated bar card so please ensure you have funds on your barcard. If you need to top up just give Sheree a ring in the office.

Coaches Corner - Monday 18th January at 2:00pm

Coaches Corner.

During the lockdown period, we are looking at ways to keep the membership (and our golfing friends far and wide) involved in what we are doing as a club. One of these events is our Coaches Forum. In this, online event, we will be talking all things golf, how we coach, what we look for in the process, the coaching process itself and methods of play. Myself and the PGA coaches here at the club are looking forward to welcoming you to the event.

So, what do we need from you? This is a totally FREE event and we will be talking about full swing in particular Driving with tour swings analysis using the Trackman swing library. In the next few days what I would like from you, is questions about golf and what you would like us to talk about.

All questions are welcome and we will do our best to answer them, it's all set to be a great afternoon of Q&A and our all new coaching concept for you, our friends and members.

So far we have questions on Driving the ball, controling ball flight in the wind and wedge play in the wind.

I would like to introduce world renowned Golf Performance Coach, Karl Morris.

The board of directors has kindly paid for a seminar from World renowned Golf Performance Coach, Karl Morris. One of our members Marina Bobeldijk, has been working with Karl for many years and suggested we run one of Karl's seminars during lockdown. We thought that rather than charge for the event, normally £20 per person, we would run the event as a bit of a thankyou, to you the membership, for your support in 2020 and during the COVID crisis.

Karl Morris, one of Europe’s leading Performance Coaches, has worked with and achieved success with SIX Major winners and over a 100 PGA Tour, European Tour, LPGA and Ladies European Tour golfers.

What Karl will be going through in our session:

- Explain one straightforward indoor exercise that can make a big difference once you get back on the course.
