Well,  what a week we have had once again. With great scores, some finals being seen out and of course the Club Championships being played on the main course, it has been a busy week. We have had two aces reported to the Pro Shop this week and I

World Handicap System 2020

Hopefully, you found last week helpful when we told you all about Playing Handicap and how it affects golfers. We now continue along our timeline and move into explaining General Play and Competition Rounds and how they count towards your WHS index.

How to submit a score?

After the completion of a competition round, a player has to submit their scorecard as soon as possible in order for their Handicap Index to be updated. Preferably, scores should be posted at the venue being played and on the same day, as this will be when a player’s Handicap Index will be updated. If this is not possible, players may post scores utilising the technology available at their golf club.

How to verify a score?

In order to verify a score and for it to count towards a player’s WHS index, some basic rules should be followed:

- Play in accordance with The Rules of Golf
- Use an authorised format of play
- Play nine holes to post a 9-hole score
- Play at least 10 holes to post an 18-hole score
- Play with at least one other person
- Play on a course with a current Course Rating and Slope Rating

How your score counts towards the WHS?

Acceptable formats of play for submitting a score towards a player’s Handicap Index include any pre-registered general play ‘social’ scores and all individual competition rounds, both 9 and 18 holes, whether played at home or away courses. Non-acceptable formats of play include a player’s individual score from fourball better ball or other match play events.

Within Toolkit 1.0 there is a table available for download which outlines all acceptable and non-acceptable formats of play. This can be shared!

Hopefully, this provides you with enough information as to how General Play and Competition Rounds count towards your WHS index and the acceptable formats of play for Handicap Index purposes.

Great scoring continues

Well, it has been a great week of golf once again and the superb scoring continues as we head towards winter golf. With both courses enjoying a rich vein of form, I really can’t see it letting up with the scoring hitting new levels each week. When will it end? Keep it up and here are a few selected results from this week’s golf here at the club.

Warren Course

Vets - Jeff Woods Trophy - Peter Simmons – 37 points

After a difficult start, Peter certainly came back with a vengeance as he settled through the round. With a back nine of 21 points, he took the victory by one point. His handicap is improving every time he plays and the hardwork he has been putting into getting better with Jake, is now paying dividends. Well done Peter and keep it up.

Ladies Stableford - Sylvia Vickerman - 39 points

Another great score from Sylvia and a very consistent scoring week from Sylvia. With five, three point scores and a four pointer to boot, there was only ever one winner. Well done Sylvia, keep it up.

Artisans

Sunday Medal - Sam Allaway - Nett 69

Arguably the Artisans most decorated player in recent years, Sam takes another victory and with five pars and birdie through the hard stretch 12 – 17 it has been another round of success for our serial winner. Well done Sam.

Championship

Ladies Stableford - Sheila Stirling - 33 points

Our Lady Captain takes the spoils this week with a great round in extremely difficult conditions. With nine pars and four, three pointers, including pars at the 17th and 18th, it was certainly a perfectly crafted round in conditions everyone found difficult with a strong wind from an unusual direction.

Ladies Weekend Stableford - Pru Dobson - 32 points

Pru has been playing a little more in recent months with work being a little kinder to her, and lasty weekend the extra golf has certainly helped her to scoop victory. Very steady scoring with three, three point scores and a par at the very hard 17th on Sunday takes the spoils. Well done Pru, you deserve a win.

Ladies Brindle - Liz Jones

Many congratulations to Liz Jones in beating Kathie Mabberley in the final this week. Liz will be competing with Marina Bobeldijk against Carole Collins-Biggs & Rosemary Smallman to see who wins the pairs knockout very soon. Good luck to all.

Seniors Club Championship - Over 65’s Centenary - Chris Reynolds - 72 gross, nett 71

Club stalwart, Chris Reynolds takes victory in this wonderfully crafted round from the clubs most decorated player. With perfectly crafted birdies at the 1st, 9th and the 18th he was level par from the 5th hole to the finish. Many congratulations Chris on once again a brilliant round.

Club Championship Centenary Scratch prize - Jack Holland gross 70, nett 71.

Plus one player, Jack played the course to perfection with some pins in somewhat questionable positions over the weekend. A quite simply brilliant back nine of 33 (-2) helped overcome three bogeys in the front nine. Many congratulations Jack an awesome round.

Club Championship. Moorhouse sword Net Prize - Richard Wilson - Nett 68

Richard played a fantastic round on Saturday and being a member of The Nevil as well, certainly helped him. Being used to fast greens certainly helped the cause and with the round capped off with birdies at the 1st and 18th holes Richard took the spoils in the net prize. I look forward to wrestling the Moorhouse sword off you at the Founders dinner after a bottle of red!!!

Tuesday Stableford - Bob Wilson - 41 points

A great win for Bob who is playing some wonderful golf at the moment and is in a rich vein of form. Bob had a round of five three point scores and two four point scores. He had a three over par back nine and takes the prize. Great scoring Bob, keep it up.

And finally, we have had two holes in one this week.

Andy Duncan had a hole in one on the 9th hole on the Championship in the Tuesday Stableford and the Warren president Chris Cardwell had one  on the 16th on the Warren. I believe this is Chris's first hole in one and I am sure it wont be his last. Well done gentleman, mines a pint!!!!
