Welcome to this week's newsletter. Well, once again my annual leave was ruined by the weather. It has been a terrible week of weather and the wind has only just begun to die down a bit today. The courses are continuing to respond well to the wet weather and with it turning again the back end of this week, we can expect the yellowed fairways to return to green very soon. I popped out this afternoon to have a wander around the courses and see where we are up to. Very busy today as it has been for a few weeks now, which is great to see. It was great to see so many players on both courses, taking advantage of the competitions now in place. There have been some great scores in the first week of competition golf and here are a few of the amazing rounds some of you have been having.
Enjoy the rest of this week's read. |

Not only has he won the prestigious Jim Clarkson Vets Trophy he has also for the very first time shot a gross score lower than his age. An incredible feat at any time of the year. Could this happen again? Probably not. That was until our very own Chris Reynolds, former national champion and England player beat his age also, with a great gross score of 70 gross!! Sorry, Chris for giving away your age. Superb scoring from our very talented membership)
Junior Stableford - Lennon Nichols - 34 points (nice scoring Lennon in very testing conditions. Lennon is a Kent county junior team player and one of the clubs best junior players) |
Championship first tee safety You may have read the Captain's newsletter last week and read the rules regarding the first tee we are looking into bringing in. As it happens, people started doing the new rule before we were going to start it. Luckily the rule actually doesn’t work in the format we set out. Here is the next option. If you are capable of reaching the first green or the 2nd tee, please wait for the 2nd tee to clear. Now, if you can’t reach the 2nd tee you don’t need to wait and you can play down. Most of our ladies can play without having to wait and to be honest a large proportion of the men. From the first tee to the 2nd tee it is 225-230 yards from the back and 214-220 from the front of the tee. You would need to be carrying the ball this length to be causing an issue.
When walking to the second tee you MUST be mindful of players on the second tee and be aware they may play a shot even though they are not supposed to. Please use your common sense going forward, as I am sure you wouldn’t want to be hit anymore than hit someone else Let’s see how this works and if it doesn’t we will resort to option three making the first a call up hole. |
Main Clubhouse re-opens
As you amy all know, both clubhouses have now opened thier facilties with some restrictions. Adrian wanted me to pass this information over to you all with regards to the main clubhouse "Dear members Thank you for adhering to our Clubhouse Covid rules. We know its strange times but with your help, we will hopefully be back to a more social club soon. Please remember if you can’t see a member of staff, you can order by text, all menus and instructions are on each table. There is no ordering at the bar currently, we will bring your drinks and snacks to you. Please don’t move the furniture to join tables. This is for yours and our staff’s safety. Currently, due to the confines of our clubhouse, we have no more than two at a table inside and four at a table outside. We know it’s a restricted offering currently and we will do all we can to increase this over the next few weeks with your support. Many thanks"

Changes pay off for Bryson Bryson DeChambeau’s beefed-up new look has had chins wagging since the restart of the PGA Tour. On Sunday, the added muscle mass delivered its first win. A seven-under final round brought his total to -23 for the week and gave ‘The Mad Scientist’ a three-stroke victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The 26-year-old had decided it was time for a change at the back-end of 2019 and put his famed thinking cap (a Ben Hogan-style flat-cap) on to find a solution. The answer, he decided, was to gain muscle in order to drive further. After finishing T3-T6-T8 in the first three events, this week DeChambeau was finally able to sink the critical putts. His driving distance (now No. 1 on the PGA Tour) has proven effective, but this week went to show that you can’t win without good putting.
