Well, once again we have had a wonderful week of weather with a couple of days of rain helping keep the fairways alive, JUST! I played yesterday with one of the assessors for Golf Monthly s Top 100 courses. He was very impressed with the courses

Hello Golfers,

Golf on Tour

Vokey Success

As detailed in last week’s newsletter, we held our first Bob Vokey Wedge Fitting Day. We had a great afternoon of fittings booked in and we had a productive afternoon fitting people for their new top of the range wedges from Titleist and Vokey golf. I did have a few people who wanted to come but couldn’t make the day.

For those people and for that matter anyone else, just get in touch and we can bespoke a fitting for you on your chosen day. It really is the only way to buy new wedges and the fitting really helps you decide what wedges you really need in your bag and in particular what styles and bounces suit your game. So, if you’re considering a new set of wedges, get in touch and we will see what we can do for you.

Odyssey Putter Fittings

Such was the success of the Wedge Fitting Day last week, we have decided to do another Saturday fitting session. This time, we will be fitting Odyssey putters using the SAMPuttLab technology on the practice green of the Championship or in the fitting area of the shop, which will be open once again.

Odyssey have some great putter models on the market at the moment. With some great on the day deals, it will never be a better time to get fitted. We have all the models from the stroke lab collection, triple track and the infamous Toulon design putters.

To book your space please let me know below or by giving us a call and I will reserve your spot. We have times available from 11:00am - 4:00pm. Get fitted, get better!

Littlestone tee timings reminder

We have been using the new tee times for almost a week now and here is a gentle reminder of the times we are allowed to play different formats of golf on both courses. The availability for different formats of golf are as follows:

Championship:
- 7:00am – 11:00am: TWO balls (MEMBERS ONLY)
- 11:00am – 12:00pm: Members & guest available in TWO ball
- 12:00pm - 1:00pm: Members/guests FOURball times
- 1:00pm – Close: Free to any players Members, guests and visitors

Tuesdays will remain a two balls tee times throughout the day. This will be extended into Saturday as well if there isn’t the demand for tee times we expect. Peak times is till 12:00pm, three times only per week, pre-booked. If there are spaces on the day you can call the shop on the day for the time that is free.

Warren:
- 7:00am – 9:00am – FOURballs (MEMBERS ONLY)
- 9:00am – Close - Available for members, guests and visitors - (no booking restrictions)

With regards to booking in advance, from the 22nd June you will be able to book your tee times 2 weeks in advance. This should allow members and guests to get times in the diary for future games. We will monitor this and when feasible we will extend this out once again.

Please bear with us in the Pro Shop as we administer these changes. You may not agree with some of what we are having to do, but rest assured we will monitor and alter tee timings periodically and keep you up to date with any decisions we make as a consequence.

Competition golf returns to Littlestone

Competition golf will be returning to both courses as from the 1st July. Entering and playing in these events will be obviously slightly different than normal. The competitions on both courses will be set up as a roll up entry and you will need to come into the Pro Shop to register and pick up your card. You would book your tee time as normal with the above tee restrictions.

Your scorecards will need to be returned to the Pro Shop and placed in the cards box found outside the front door, a big plastic tub. Any cards not returned to the box will be disqualified. Processing these cards will take extra time so please don’t ring the shop asking why your £2 twos winnings is not in your account the day after the competition.

To make these competitions qualifying, we need to bring in two local rules.

- Preferred lies are now no longer in operation on both courses.

- Bunkers
You make take a preferred lie in a bunker as long as it is not closer to the hole and is within 6 inches of its original spot. You place the ball not drop.

- Holes and Holing out
Notwithstanding that the hole has been modified such that players may remove a ball without touching the flagstick, a ball shall be deemed holed if any part of the ball IS below the surface of the putting green, even if not lodged against the flagstick.

Competition formats:

Championship:

Tuesday Stableford. Open to all players male and female. £3 entry / £1 twos
Weekend Stableford. Open to all and can play on either the Saturday or Sunday. £3 entry / £1 twos

Warren:

Tuesday Stableford. Men’s competition.
Thursday Seniors Stableford. Open to all senior Warren members. Yellow/White tee competition.
Weekend Stableford. Open to all male members and can be played on either the Saturday or Sunday.
Warren Ladies will be running their own events.

This is the beginnings of competition golf here at Littlestone, it will, of course, develop back towards a normal schedule as we go through the coming months. Please adhere to these new rules and accept that things will be different to the normal for the foreseeable future. One thing is for sure though, we will return to some form of normality eventually.

World Handicap Sysytem 2020

In this week’s World Handicapping update, I can now formally inform you all of the details of our course handicap tables and our official slope rating. The certificates arrived this morning digitally (due to the Coronavirus) from England Golf and we are now official.

So, to explain the course handicap here’s a little tutorial on how it will work. Starting with the process of course rating, done by our very own John Young on behalf of Kent golf union.

When you are playing a game on the courses, the first port of call is to find your accurate handicap index. This is the number given to you to replace your current handicap as it were. Let’s say for instance I had a handicap index of 12.6 and I intended to play from the Yellow tees. I would go to the course handicap tables found either in the Pro Shop or near the first tee and look up first of all the tee I intended to play from.
Secondly, I would look up my handicap index on the left hand column and then read what my course handicap would be on that tee. Simples.

Next week we are opening it up to questions, so if anyone has any questions on the WHS then pleases send them in and I will answer them in next weeks WHS section of the newsletter.

Video of the Week

Woods and Mickelson are undoubtedly two of the best golfers of their generation, but that doesn't mean they haven't had their fair share of poor shots too. Enjoy this week's video from the PGA Tour, which highlights some of the most interesting places they've found themselves in out on the course.
