Welcome to this week’s newsletter. As I am sure you are aware by now, the volume of water dropped on us over the last few weeks has been absolutely astonishing.
Looking at the Met Office figures for the area, we have actually had the wettest February on record and mixed with a warm winter, it has exposed a few problems both for us and a lot of courses in the UK. |
|
This mix of moist weather and warmer conditions has created a hotbed of growing conditions for cranefly larvae commonly known as Leather Jackets. We have all heard of them that’s for sure with some horror stories from around the county and it is unfortunate we have a small problem on a couple of holes on both courses. The problem we have is that the pesticide used to control them has been banned by a World Health Organisation directive and there is no alternative as yet. We will need to wait and see what we do next and hope we get a bit of luck with a warm and moist spring. The good news is grass will always grow and recover very quickly so we shouldn’t see much of a problem in the coming months.
Enjoy the rest of this week's read. |
On the Course...
Well, there have been a few competitions this week. Unfortunately, the Warren competitions have been cancelled this week due to the waterlogged course but were hoping to get the 18 holes open as soon as we can. On the Championship, it’s a different story, with the course being on shale it drains significantly better and we have had a few competitions this week to tell you about. Championship: Men’s Tuesday Stableford - Neil King - 37 points Men’s Hopper Trophy - Neil King - 37 points Junior Stableford - Lennon Nichols - 36 points Well done to Neil winning both the Tuesday Stableford and the Hopper Trophy. A special well done must also go to Lennon, scoring 36 points in difficult conditions.

James Wright joins the team PGA Trainee Assistant
I started playing golf at the age of 9 whilst looking for a low impact sport having broken my femur. I have represented the County since the age of 12 and represented Kent at the England Boys County Finals in 2019. I have enjoyed many rounds on the Championship Links and have been lucky enough to be a member here at Littlestone for the last two years. I am excited to be able to study for my PGA qualifications joining a club with so much history and being home to the game that I have grown to love so much. I am looking forward to becoming a valued member of the team and meeting all the members and their guests as we move into Spring and hopefully some better weather. |

Are you due a service?
With the ground on the two courses being a little on the muddy side in places, Mark has come up with a great idea to help you with your clubs and trolleys.
Mark’s Trolley & Club MOT is now available and anyone wanting to take advantage, take a look at the following video to see how or contact me here for details.

Volunteers needed
Finally, this week I am looking for a little bit of help from a few of you. In the coming weeks, we will be putting on a seminar in the dining room all about the golf swing and in particular how we, as professionals, go through a coaching session and how we diagnose swing faults and more importantly cure them. I am looking for four volunteers, two male and two females to take part in a coaching session and have your swing analysed and then critiqued during the seminar. The thick-skinned need only apply! In addition to our PGA staff, Adam Riley from Osteo Resolve will be on hand to explain how some physical attributes can affect certain swing characteristics. This will be one of our many member events during the year with the dates to follow.
Would you like to volunteer? - Click here to get in touch. |
Thanks for reading this week’s newsletter and hopefully you like the video content were putting in. If there’s anything you want to see in these newsletters, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

‘Drive for show, putt for dough’. No doubt you have heard this one a few times before but considering putting equates to between 30 to 50% of our shots on the course, it also has a large element of truth in it. |
| Odyssey Stroke Lab Triple Track putters |
|
There's some clever technology out there to help you putt better. For example, Odyssey has taken the Triple Track Alignment from the ERC Soft golf ball and combined it with their Stroke Lab shaft to create this stunning range of putters. |
If you're someone who struggles to line up correctly on the greens, come and try Odyssey's Triple Track putters at Littlestone Golf Club. Better putting might just be around the corner. |
