Welcome to this week’s news down on the Links. It’s been another wet week on the links and now we have a cold spell coming in and with three frost delays already this week, we could be in for a disrupted week of tee times.
Please bear with us when we have frost delays, we will always try to get you out onto the course as soon as we can. It is a beautiful time of year though with the sky’s crimson shades covering the links in the mornings.
Enjoy the rest of this week's read.

Founders Day 2020
For those of you who attended the Founders Day celebrations last Saturday, I am sure you will agree it was a great success. The food was great, the company was superb and the speeches hilarious. I would of loved to have put the video of the speeches up on the social media pages and in here, but I think I may well have got told off. Those of you who attended would know why. Very funny but a bit close to the bone on occasion. Anyone who would like to see the speeches I did record them and I can send you a copy if you would like to see them.

Many congratulations to all the winners on the evening and a special congratulations to Chris Reynolds and Julie Ballard who won the Mixed Summer Knockout, I neglected to put this as part of the presentation evening, as I am led to believe it normally is. So, a special apology for the mistake to Chris and Julie, I will present it in 2021’s founders alongside the 2020 winners. It seems last week’s movie trailer went down very well, so I have been busy putting together a new one for the 2020 Founders Day, enjoy.

The Bargain Bag
Having had a chat with a few of you and listened intently to your views, I have decided to try out a new thing in the Pro Shop. The Bargain Bag has been released this week and this gives you, the membership, the chance to sell off some of your surplus equipment.
It works like this. Bring in your club and we will value it for you, we will mark it up for sale in the bag. If we sell it, the shop will take a 30% sellers fee and the remaining money will go onto your bar card. You will find the bag behind the door to the left as you come into the shop and already there are some absolute bargains in the bag ready for you lucky bargain hunters to pick up. This is a trial period and we may not always be able to sell off what you bring in so we may have to return it to you unsold after a period of time. Hopefully another service for our membership that will help clear some of your surplus equipment.

Are you due an upgrade? We have had the Mavrik driver from Callaway in-store now for a week and the members' response to having a try, has been very positive. With four sales just this week, we can safely say it’s been a great launch of the new product. The Mavrik will sell wonderfully well this year but for 2019 it had to be all about the PING G410. |
The G410 outsold any other driver by three to one last year and it is still a fantastic model for 2020. So, if you are looking for a new bit of distance hardware give me a shout and we can fit you up to a spec that suits you and your game, in no time at all.
The best bit is the Price Match Promise and also a promise that we will not sell you something that doesn’t significantly improve your game. When fitting a driver, I use TrackMan technology to get the fit just right. It’s all very complicated when breaking down the numbers but PING has now designed a table for amateurs and fitters, to get a real idea of what the ideal launch conditions are at a glance.

On a TrackMan, I can pick up the angle of attack and the ball speed of the shot and get some averages. Once I have this information, I then figure out what the best launch angle is and the spin I would need to get the most distance. As an example, my angle of attack with a driver is plus 2 degrees and my ball speed is around 160. For me to get the most distance I need to be launching the ball at 12.6 degrees with an optimal spin of 2300rpm. Now, the TrackMan can tell me all these figures, all I have to do is try different lofts, head designs and shafts to attain those parameters and voila you have a beast of a driver. Anyone interested in trying the latest equipment, please click here and one of our fitting staff will get you setup with the right stick even if it’s your own that needs adjusting.
