Welcome to this week’s newsletter. Well, what a week it has been, with lots going on and plenty of news to tell you all about. As you may know, we have been blessed by some significant rainfall over the last couple of weeks and it has had a dramatic effect on our courses. The course works have now started and I am pleased to tell you all that it has up to now been an amazing success. The overseeding on the main course has gone according to plan and already in less than three days, it has begun to take in certain areas. For those of you who don’t know how it’s done please see the photos below. |
The tractor has a barrel with long slits in it which rolls and slices the turf (why it needs to be moist, not rock hard) as it slices, it drops the seed directly into the slice and then a heavy roller rolls it into the space further. Clever stuff! Someone somewhere is sitting on a patent, whilst sipping a margarita that’s for sure. The overseeding will be another week to fully complete and our bunker regeneration work can begin and really change how the bunkers look and play. |
One thing I have to mention is the greenkeepers always HAVE RIGHT OF WAY. Please let them do their jobs and just be patient, please don’t hit balls where it could hit them. I have seen two occasions of this week and if we see it again, I will be over for a quiet word. This is extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated.
You may all know that the Championship Course is now on mats on the fairways. Please take a mat from the bin on the first tee and put it in the bin on the 18th.
Remember this is not optional, it is mandatory. One thing though please use the mats provided and don’t bring your own, as one of our members did.

Hard work pays off
We have had quite a few competitions this week on both courses with some great scoring. One, in particular, is Graham Burton. He won the Monthly Stableford on the Championship on Saturday with a great score of 43 points. Graham came to me a year ago with the desire to get to single figures and we have finally done it. Well done Graham, you really are the best student working hard and now you are reaping the benefits, many congratulations on reaching single figures. Here’s this week’s results:

Inspiring the next generation
I have had some enquiries about Junior Golf and the development of this in the coming months. As from Wednesday, 1 January I will be taking a more active role in the Junior Coaching at the club and the structure of this will be finalised during the run-up to Christmas. We will be launching the all-new England Golf's Junior Passport in the new year and this will be used to help junior golfers get into the game and develop as players and valued members.
We will be trailing a few ideas over the coming months and the first of these sessions will be run by myself for four weeks from Saturday, 16 November for four weeks. This is for the Junior team players and the juniors we have who have active handicaps. The cost is £25 for four weeks (£6.25 per week) and is subsidised by England Golf. In these sessions, we will be looking at developing skills using TrackMan Golf and SAMPuttLab sessions and preparing the team for matches in the new year. |
This session will be popular so please put your child’s name down quickly as I only have 8 spaces for these sessions. Contact me here to reserve your place. We will be looking at creating a more structured approach to coaching your children and giving them access to the most experienced coaches knowledge, in the hope we can create some great golfers who love the game and will move through to County level and even National level training.
