Welcome to this week’s, Links news. Well, I am now back in work after a wonderful break in the sunshine and it’s great to be back at the club. I have been out early doors this morning (Thursday) to see how the course has reacted to all the works that have gone on whilst I have been away. I am actually both surprised and thrilled with how well these works have gone and already I can see a difference in the 10 days I have been away.
I hope you enjoyed reading last week’s email and in particular the reasons for why we are doing the works on the course right now. This week, I have a bit more news for you and in particular exactly what we intend to next in the coming fortnight. Enjoy the read.

What exactly is a wetting agent?
This week, we have been clearing and making good the damage caused by the coring and we have spiked the greens with a 10-inch fine grade spike. The spiking should have had a very limited effect on your game and in particular how the ball rolls out. From this coming Monday, we will be doing a full cut and tidy of both courses, ready for the next phase which is to add a wetting agent which will happen midweek. So, what exactly is a wetting agent? Here is a couple of diagrams that help explain exactly what these chemicals do and why they are important in our programs of works.

The final phase of our works will be commencing on Monday, 21 October, this will be the top dressing and seeding of all the problem areas. Now, when we commence this part of the project, I am afraid we will have to use mats. I have looked into some of these and I have chosen the one which is the easiest to keep clean and easiest to play from.
The one I initially thought would be good is far too expensive and is three times more expensive than the one we have chosen. Please see below our chosen mat, it is actually quite nice to hit from.
