Slow play 

For all of you who have experienced slow play recently, I have a little story for you that I overheard earlier this week which made me chuckle. There was a match recently with one of our club’s longstanding friends and I was lucky enough to be a party to this little cracker.

These matches tend to be a two-round foursomes affair with a lunch slotted in between the two rounds and as I am sure you can imagine the best golf most certainly gets played in the morning.The gentleman in question was playing about four years ago in one such match just before we started spraying the rough to thin it out a little bit. Standing on the fourth tee and his partner standing on the right side of the fairway a vino inspired lunge with a driver sent the ball hurtling to the left rough only to be heard but not seen by his playing partner. 

Now, with our hero of the piece striding up the fairway and his partner waving frantically back as to how far in to go, it was at this point that the fatal mistake was made. As the partner walked to his left, he found the ball in deep rough, waving to our hero and nodding I have it, he turned to draw out a wedge to extricate the ball only to find his bag, not by his side.
