Hello Golfers,

Greetings from a sunny and windy links. We are right in the middle of Open Week here at the club and it has been an incredibly busy time for all the staff. Bruce and I have already clocked our weekly allocation of hours in just two and a half days, but it is well worth it.

Can I take this opportunity to thank the membership for supporting this event each year, not only in helping and playing, but allowing us to do it and close the course.

This week makes the club an awful lot of money which will be put to good use in the coming months - so thank you to everyone. As a thanks to all playing we have sponsored the 6th hole every day this week with a Scotty Cameron putter up for grabs each day. So good luck if you are playing.

Captain’s Prize

The Captain’s Prize this year is on Saturday 24th August and will now be played as a one round Stableford competition. The Sunday will now be the Captain’s picnic, so please sign up for the event on the noticeboard in the main clubhouse. We will be holding the Surtees putting competition, as well as the Vickery Hickory Long Drive Championships. We will also be holding a selection of other fun events and live music, so please come along and support the event.

Please note from 12pm on the Sunday, the first tee will be moved to the start of the 1st fairway to accommodate the Captain’s picnic.

Honma Fitting Day

For those of you who may be a little bit of a techhead, I have something very special for you. Some of you who follow tech forums or even have a little interest in what people play with in their bags, you may know Justin Rose over winter has changed equipment to the Japanese brand, Honma.

Well, Honma are a very difficult brand to ‘get in with’ but with a bit of pushing, I have managed it. I have used Honma equipment myself in the past and they are a cut above the rest when it comes to quality of workmanship.

So, for those of you who fancy a try on some of the world’s finest equipment, I will be running a Custom Fitting Day with brand director and fitter to the tour, Josh Emerton, on Tuesday 17th September.

I have half hour slots from 10am – 3pm for fittings. Anyone seriously interested please let me know as soon as possible to ensure you have a slot.

Do you struggle with your putting?

For those of you who may struggle putting, why not come and have a session on our SAM PuttLab station or a session with our PGA staff here. With a wealth of information, we really might be able to help you reduce how many putts per round you have.

Most importantly please take a look at where he is aiming the True Putt system, it is sideways. Would you have aimed there?

Links Experience Day

We will be launching these experience days in the near future. There will be general full days for Beginners, Intermediates and Expert players as well as days specific for certain parts of the game going into much more detail. Anyone wishing to express interest in such days please get in touch and we will reserve you a place for future events.

The simple shoe equation

Mathematics can be a complicated subject with all that pi, algebra and calculus floating around, but there is one simple equation we can all understand:

The main problem here is that walking on hard ground for four hours/18 holes in the summer months can take its toll on our feet.

Adjust to your surroundings

Driver adjustability has been a marketing buzz term for a number of years now, but how much of a difference will it really make to your game? Well, we decided to find out.

We could bamboozle you with tech speak when it comes to adjustability but there are two key ways in which today's drivers can be adjusted to suit your swing, making a custom fitting more important than ever before.

Hosel adjustability

The first is the ability to adjust loft and lie angles in the hosel. If you're launching your driver too low or high, hosel adjustability allows us to add or take away loft until we get the perfect launch conditions for your swing.

Perimeter weighting

The second is the ability to adjust weights on the sole of the head to favour either a draw, fade or neutral shot shape.

Take Callaway's ultra-fast looking Epic Flash driver for example. A 16-gram moveable weight (as well as an adjustable hosel) can be re-positioned during a custom fitting to help counteract your bad shot.
