Welcome to this week’s newsletter. Well, the weather has certainly changed from one extreme to another, as the rains have returned to the links. We certainly needed the rain for the courses as they were beginning to really dry out and crack in places. Over the coming weeks, we should really see a difference in the grass coverage on the fairways as the water feeds the root system. |
Latest Results
It has been a relatively quiet week for competition golf on the courses but here is a few results from both courses:
Warren Course Mixed Winstanley Cup - Doreen Parsons - 36 points
Championship Links Ladies Summer Meeting - Marina Bobeldijk - 39 points Ladies Weekend Stableford - Kathie Mabberley - 74 nett Men's Tuesday Stableford - Peter Vickerman JNR - 36 points, a great score in that wind.

Princes 27
Three of our four pros played in the Princes 27 on Monday. It’s a 27 hole Pro-Am over all three 9’s at Princes. It was my first Pro-Am of the year and we had a great time playing the courses that were in great condition (greens still not as good as ours).
My partner and I had a great round and finished -3 over 27 holes. Mark and his partner had a good round also, finishing on +1, and finally Jake and partner finished on +8. There are several Pro-Am's throughout the year in the Kent region and if there is anyone interested in playing in any of these events please don’t hesitate to drop me an email and I can list them for you. Alternatively, you can look at the PGA’s website PGA.info for south region schedule information.

Entry Changes
For all our Warren members you should now be aware of the competition entries changing. The PSI machine is being removed from the Warren Clubhouse on the 31st July and you will need to go to the pro shop to enter all PSI competitions. Details of this are on all club boards and have been sent out as an email also.
If anyone hasn’t seen this information please let me know and I can either print you a hard copy or email you a copy.

Tip Of The Week
Last week I went into bunker shots, and how I play them. There was one important part which I may have neglected to go through so I put a small video together just to go over this important element of a successful bunker shot.

|
Moving on from the bunker shot, this week’s tip is how to play from a hard, tight lie, with something to go over. Take a look at the tips video of how I would play this particular shot. |

Links Experience Day
Last Sunday I held another one of our Links Experience Days here at Littlestone. A full day coaching with lunch and jollyment. At the moment Bruce and I are looking into developing these days a bit more and making them more specific to the playing ability.
We will be launching these experience days in the near future. There will be general full days for Beginners, Intermediates and Expert players as well as days specific for certain parts of the game going into much more detail. Anyone wishing to express interest in such days please get in touch and we will reserve you a place for future events.

Golf Ball Compression
One last bit for you, before I go. I had a member come in the other day asking about golf balls and how they compress and how that relates to distance created. Well, it all comes down to something called the Coefficient of Restitution namely how energy is transferred in the collision of two objects, namely the club and the ball. The photograph below shows 4 different collisions at different speeds.
|
Looking at someone’s ball speed and clubhead speed can help with choosing a golf ball which may well suit the swing of that player. Maybe a ball with less compression may help someone with a slower clubhead speed, as when the ball compresses the more the spring-like effect of the impact could well help in creating more distance.
One thing I do see quite often is the use of old balls, here is the reason I don’t. Each golf ball you may see has a specific dimple design, in which each manufacturer claims to have the perfect flow of air over the ball making it fly straighter and gain height consistently. An example would be that if you had a ball with mud on one side of the ball, it would be impossible for that ball to fly straight due to the disruption of the airflow over the ball creating an altered ball flight. Using an old ball can have the same effect if the surface is damaged it will not fly straight.
This is why professional players use a new ball on each hole, I am not saying you need a new ball every hole, as that would not be financially viable. It may well be worth looking at the ball before play and considering the effect of a damaged ball may have on its flight, it may well be only fractional but this is a game of fractions.

It will be very busy in the car parks next week so please when parking make sure you park in a responsible way bearing in mind parking will be at a premium next week.
I look forward to seeing you all very soon and if we can help with anything, don’t hesitate in letting me know.

1 gap, 2 gap, 3 gap, FORE! |
How confident are you hitting your long irons? The lack of forgiveness can lead to inconsistent strikes and less distance. This is when filling the gaps at the top end of your bag with utility irons or hybrids could be the smartest decision you ever make – but which is right for you? |
Titleist’s brand-new utility irons and hybrids are really special, and you’ll be able to get your hands on them through us in no time at all. Why do we like them so much? Well, they are seriously easy to hit and offer unbeatable performance, but there are some things you should know… |
U-500 and U-510 utility irons Quite simply, these offer more distance than a standard iron but less spin than a hybrid. Both come loaded with tungsten for incredible forgiveness, with the U-500 offering workability and precise distances whilst the U-510 boasts a high launch and increased carry from a larger head.
|
TS2 and TS3 hybrids It's time to stop thinking of these hybrids as rescue clubs and begin referring to them as scoring clubs. Both offer plenty of distance and an easy to hit nature, with the TS2 providing a higher launch from a wider head and the TS3 giving us more adjustability in an iron-like profile. |
|
So, which route should you go down? Hybrid or utility iron? Let’s give all four a go in a custom fitting session and find the one that offers you the best performance. |
