Welcome to this week’s links news. The course is looking in amazing condition and the course really is now looking like a proper links golf course. It is fast and hard, just how a links should be.

I for one want to congratulate the greenkeepers for the work they have done in the rough. If you look closely you will be able to see how the thicker grasses are becoming less prolific and as a consequence, if your ball does go in you have a relatively good chance of finding it. Selective spraying is how this is completed, a very difficult job to undertake as it is so specific, so well done to Malcolm and his team for the hard work involved.

Broatch Final
Many congratulations to Marina Bobeldijk & Liz Jones who won the Broatch Final against Vanessa Lyons & Anne Carfoot, a hard-fought win in testing conditions.

Super Sixes
Last Friday the Championship held its second Super Sixes evening with a fantastic turnout of 50 players. The evening was won by David & Annie Weighton who triumphed with a score way ahead of the field. Many congratulations to them and thank you to everyone who supported the event. The Captain laid on some entertainment as well which was well-received, as was the tasty BBQ which the following video is a testament to.

The next big event will be the Captains Charity Day on Saturday 20th July which is now full. We are still taking reserve list bookings though so please let me know if you would like to get involved.

Links Experience Day

For those of you who may have missed it, I will be running the Links Experience Days here at the club on the Sunday 14th and 28th July.

The response has been great and as a consequence, I only have one space left for the 14th and two for the 28th.

Hands up...

...if the only time you 'practice' your wedge play is when you hit a few shots at the start of your warm-up routine? Sadly, this isn't going to lead to a dialled in wedge game, which is one of the fastest ways to see your scores come tumbling down.

Sounds easy, right? Well, it could be but first there are two things you must do in order to start saving shots.

1. Correctly gapped wedge system - What we mean by this is having an equal gap between each club in your bag, so you're never left trying to 'manufacture' a shot on the golf course (this is where large numbers start).
