Welcome to this week's newsletter. Well, looking out of the window today, it’s the first time in a week I can see the hills behind Folkestone, it really has been a bit of a murky few days. The poor weather conditions hasn’t dampened spirits though and there has once again been some great scoring on both courses. Enjoy the read. |
Last Week's Results Warren Ladies Medal was won by Toni Ovenden with a net 69 and the Warren Vets April Stableford was won by Brian Longman with 42 points.
Championship Ladies April medal was won by Shirley Mansfield with a net 74. Championship Men’s Tuesday Stableford held on Tuesday, 2 April was won by Richard Pinder on a countback from John McIntyre. Championship Men’s April Medal was won by Grahame Burton with a magnificent 67. Those lessons have really paid off. Incidentally eight out of the top ten are currently having lessons with the PGA staff here at the club.
A very well done to all in this week’s competitive events. In addition to our club events we also held the County Order of Merit event, The Romer Bowl, last Sunday. It was a 36 hole scratch event with some great scoring in difficult conditions. The event was won by Sam Robertson of Chestfield GC with a 74 and 66 gross, finishing -2. |

Galvin Green For The Ladies For our Ladies, Galvin Green has some great discounted deals on some of their clothing lines with some great offers on insulated tops and Gore-Tex waterproof jackets so please come in a check out the deals in-store. Our trial jackets from Galvin Green are in and if you take out and try a jacket, I will give you a £25 voucher off the price of a new one if you decide to buy. Galvin Green have some great products out at the moment and I must admit I really love my new trousers called the NOAH. In blood red I certainly stand out from the crowd and you can really see me coming. They’re the best trousers I have ever had and thankfully very easy to wash as my laundry skills are mediocre at best. |
Skechers 2019 Have Landed Skechers 2019 shoes have now landed in-store. The 2019 line-up from the US brand have really outdone themselves for comfort in this year’s offering. With four colourways and some serious bling for the Ladies shoes, I reckon these will dominate our sales for the spikeless shoes we offer. Pop in and give them a try. |

Ladies Coffee Mornings In addition to the Girls Golf Rocks scheme I will be running the Ladies coffee mornings on Fridays at 10:00am. This will be a drop-in class for any Ladies who want to get into golf or who want to hone existing skills. The cost will be £10 including coffee afterwards in the Championship clubhouse. This is open to all members of BOTH clubs and their friends who may wish to try the game. It will start on Friday, 26 April and will run every week for the entire year. At my previous clubs this was a great way of meeting new friends and getting some real help with your game amongst Ladies of a similar standard. Most of all, it’s fun and a great way of learning something new and hopefully really improving your game.

Housekeeping Update Just a few bits of housekeeping on the course to talk about. Please be advised that both courses will be having some top dressing added to the greens this week (Thursday) and will be brushed in as soon as possible by the greenstaff. In addition, on the Warren you may have noticed the side of the 14th being prepared for the base that the viewing platform will be put on. The shrubbery and trees around that area will also be tidied up as soon as the base is down. We are still struggling for growth on the greens and fairways on both courses but after a dressing of feed and some forecasted warm weather I am sure we will see a difference in the courses very soon. |
In The Bag In the bag this week is the wedges. Now I change my wedges every 18 months. Grooves wear down very easily these days, and in particular after the rules regarding groove depth changed a few years ago. I carry a 50 degree, 54 degree and 58 degree. I keep with the same shaft as my irons the Dynamic Gold AWT X100 shaft AWT the same grips as well to keep continuity between my set. I use Titleist Vokey wedges as they are the one’s I have used all my life. They aren’t forged but are cast heads and they are awesome. I went for the dark heads that rust up with use. They are my choice as there is no glare from the metal when I play those cute little touch shots around the green. Read on to hear more about our upcoming Titleist Vokey demo day. |
Titleist Vokey Demo Day We will be holding a Titleist Vokey demo day on Wednesday, 24 April so please get in touch to get custom fitted by the tour fitters. It’s a rare opportunity to be fitted by the same guy who fits all the top Pro’s around the globe. Ring the Pro Shop on 01797 363355 (opt 1) or click here to book your slot. Dont delay, we have limited space! |
A driver is a powerful beast, sometimes too powerful if a hole has a hazard within range. In this scenario, you have a plethero of options to choose from, but there is one that is often overlooked. |
Picture the scene You're stood on a par-4 tee box and there’s a water hazard 240 yards away. What do you do? Many of you will reach for your longest iron on auto-pilot, however a custom-fitted fairway wood might just be the perfect solution; getting you further down the hole and closer to the green. | |
|
Why is this often overlooked? A lot of golfers don't have confidence in hitting their fairway wood because, quite simply, they don't use it enough. But with technology to help you hit them better - such as a Tungsten weight in PING's G410 fairway wood that increases forgiveness - it's time you gave them another go. |
Custom fitting is key We're delighted to see so many of you come to us for a custom fit when you're after a new driver or set of irons, but why does it stop there? A custom fitting is so important in ensuring you get the most from any new purchase, whether that's a driver, fairway wood or putter. |
