Christmas coaching promotions As the season is now finished and the long winter months are setting in, now is the perfect time to get yourself fit and ready for next season. Making changes in your golf swing can be a very difficult thing to do, and of course takes time. During the off season is the perfect time to take the plunge and make some changes. Simplicity is key to making real and long-lasting change and as a simple northerner, it is always what I strive to do when helping someone with their game. Most don’t want to take the time to make serious changes and I can’t blame them for that, I certainly wouldn’t want to. So finding the simplest form of change is always the best way forward. I have an example for you. I recently had a member come and see me about the excessive shaping in their shots. They had big left to right slices caused by cutting across the ball. Here is the first problem, they didn’t understand why the ball did what it did and what exactly causes a ball to spin like that. Physical limitations can always have an effect on how the ball is struck. This is where we find the key. No lower half movement can drastically affect how the club returns to the ball and in this case, the position of the right foot was the key. If the right foot is turned away from the target, it turns the knee joint away from where it is trying to go and mechanically changes the direction the club can go in the downswing.
The fix was to turn the right foot towards the target and the effect is to allow free movement of the lower half, reducing the out to in direction of the club through the ball.
Now it is not always that simple but it usually is!
